When in Rome...

Dave and I spent four days in Rome. The weather was perfect and we were able to see many sites, including touring the Vatican Museum! I took about 200 pictures while in Rome, so this is just a small glimpse into everything we saw!

St. Peter's Square and Basilica. The Vatican is located behind the basilica.

Swiss guards stand outside all entrances to the Vatican day and night. Yes, all the Swiss guards are from Switzerland!

Castle St. Angelo. We were able to tour this castle.

Dave admiring his new catapult in the castle...haha.

Fountain at Piazza Navona.

The Patheon in Rome.

The alter in the Pantheon. It was beautiful inside.

A view of St. Peter's Basilica at night!

Dave and I at Trevi Fountain! And yes, we did make a wish and toss in a coin.

Trevi Fountain.

Looking up the Spanish steps...there is another whole section below this as well. However, it was PACKED and you couldn't even see any of the steps!

This is one of the most famous Greek statues in ancient Rome. It is the story of Laocoön. It was located inside the Vatican Museum.

They weren't able to take photos back in the day...so statues were carved to remember what people looked like. Thousands of these have been found.

This is a picture of the ceiling in one of the rooms of the Vatican Museum. The ceiling is FLAT...it looks 3-D, but is not. The artists used shadowing to make it look like it was though! Pretty crazy!

This statue was found with a note on it that said "This statue was struck by lightning!" haha

All statues were originally made with these glass eyes. However, most of the time the glass was stolen and sold back in the day. This is the only statue in the Vatican that has glass eyes.

Arch of Constantine located near the Colosseum and Roman Forum remains.

The Colosseum!

Some ruins of the Roman Forum. It was built, and then completely forgotten when Rome fell, and later used as a cattle pasture.

Chilly Times in San Remo, Italy...

San Remo, Italy is about an hour train ride from Cannes, France. We made the trip to San Remo on October 20th. Dave spent most of the week in San Remo playing A TON of poker. While he playing, I walked around the city a bit (when it wasn't gloomy, rainy, or chilly!)

Welcome to San Remo!

What is left of a defense tower that was built in the 1500's.

Some of the streets were simply stairs that winded through buildings. It's just sad that there is so much grafiti.

View of the beach. However, it was too chilly here to be laying out or swimming!

Colorful little houses/apartments.

Fort Santa Tecla. It was built in 1755, not for defensive purposes, but rather to keep the people of San Remo under control!

The San Remo Russian Church. Extremely ornate!!

Casino San Remo! It was very nice inside. Sadly, I lost ten euros attempting to play video poker....yeah I'm a degen.

Such blue water on the Italian coast. This is the Ligurain Sea.

Exploring the city of Cannes...

I took some more pictures after exploring Cannes a bit! It is truly amazing here!

The back of Notre Dame de l' Esperance church.

Overlooking the city of Cannes! Beautiful.

Some clouds, but otherwise blue skies!

Little boxes on the hillside! haha. Tiny houses and many stairs in order to reach them and the church!

This is actually the bus station in Cannes, but they painted it to commemorate the Cannes Film Festival.

Looking west at the Croisette.

There was a film being shot outside of the Carlton hotel on the Croisette.

This is the guy they were filming...if you ever see this in a movie scene, let me know!

Palais des Festivals, where the Cannes film festival is held every year!

Hand prints outside of the Palais des Festivals. Silvester Stallone.

Nicholas Cage.

Cameron Diaz.

Another enterance into the theater. It was HUGE and it is always guarded by security.

Can someone please tell me if the WSOPE tournament is here? I'm not quite positive...haha

Settling back into Cannes

Dave and I are back in Cannes, France. Luckily, I will have more than just a day and a half here before having to leave again! We will be here until October 20th, so I am hoping to do a lot of exploring before then. Luckily, it was a bit more sunny today so I was able to get some pictures that are better than the first ones I posted from Cannes/Nice.

A view of the entire Croisette.

Some huge yachts at Cannes Port. Some were even 4 levels...

The rock area located near the port. This is where the teenagers go to smoke joints and drink beer...no joke. haha

So sunny!

Church of Notre Dame de L'Esperance clock and bell tower in the background. I'm going to go check this place out soon!

Beach area with mountains in the background.

The water was very blue! And there was quite a few people sunbathing given it was only about 70 degrees out.

At first, I thought that these little tower things were throughout the city just to remind people that they are in "Cannes, France".....then I found out what they really were!

Public toilets is what they actually are! 0,50 euros per use. Kind of crazy, right?!
