When in Rome...

Dave and I spent four days in Rome. The weather was perfect and we were able to see many sites, including touring the Vatican Museum! I took about 200 pictures while in Rome, so this is just a small glimpse into everything we saw!

St. Peter's Square and Basilica. The Vatican is located behind the basilica.

Swiss guards stand outside all entrances to the Vatican day and night. Yes, all the Swiss guards are from Switzerland!

Castle St. Angelo. We were able to tour this castle.

Dave admiring his new catapult in the castle...haha.

Fountain at Piazza Navona.

The Patheon in Rome.

The alter in the Pantheon. It was beautiful inside.

A view of St. Peter's Basilica at night!

Dave and I at Trevi Fountain! And yes, we did make a wish and toss in a coin.

Trevi Fountain.

Looking up the Spanish steps...there is another whole section below this as well. However, it was PACKED and you couldn't even see any of the steps!

This is one of the most famous Greek statues in ancient Rome. It is the story of Laocoön. It was located inside the Vatican Museum.

They weren't able to take photos back in the day...so statues were carved to remember what people looked like. Thousands of these have been found.

This is a picture of the ceiling in one of the rooms of the Vatican Museum. The ceiling is FLAT...it looks 3-D, but is not. The artists used shadowing to make it look like it was though! Pretty crazy!

This statue was found with a note on it that said "This statue was struck by lightning!" haha

All statues were originally made with these glass eyes. However, most of the time the glass was stolen and sold back in the day. This is the only statue in the Vatican that has glass eyes.

Arch of Constantine located near the Colosseum and Roman Forum remains.

The Colosseum!

Some ruins of the Roman Forum. It was built, and then completely forgotten when Rome fell, and later used as a cattle pasture.
